CAS Academician Elected Ordinary Member of Executive Board of ICSU

The 30th General Assembly of International Council for Science (ICSU) was held on 27-30 September in Rome, Italy. Prof. WU Guoxiong from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences was elected the ordinary member of the Executive Board of ICSU. 14 candidates were nominated by the national members. Prof. WU and three other scientists from UK, Brazil, and France were elected.

Prof. WU Guoxiong is a senior scientist and professor in Institute of Atmospheric Physics. He is one of the world top meteorologists who possess both solid mathematical and physical bases, and rich practical experiences. In 1997, he was elected the academician of CAS and Life Tenure Professor. Prof. WU’s research involves weather and climate dynamics, including numerical modeling and data diagnosis. Over the past 20 years, he has been actively involved in the international climate community. He is currently the chairman of Science Steering Group of National Key Science Research Program on Global Change funded by Ministry of Science and Technology of China.

ICSU is a non-governmental organization with a global membership of national scientific bodies (121 Members, representing 141 countries) and International Scientific Unions (30 Members). ICSU’s mission is to strengthen international science for the benefit of society. A General Assembly of all Members is convened every three years.
